The full
involvement of the client and his or her family in the rehabilitation
process is the foundation of the universally accepted belief
in client-centered care. Client-centered care or client-centeredness
is defined as the process of positioning the client at the
center of the decision making process, and fully encouraging
him or her to assume full responsibility for health and wellness.
The FSRI believes that being in a health state means more
that the absence of disease -- it means the ability to exert
control over one’s own physical, emotional, and spiritual
well being. This is why the motto at the FSRI is “Heal.
Empower. Thrive.” The FSRI fully subscribes to the tenants
of client–centeredness, and as such, will offer monthly
educational session on health and wellness topics important
to Kuwait. For example, the incidence rate of obesity and
diabetes in Kuwait is among the highest in the world, meaning
that the number of new cases of diagnosed obesity and diabetes
is higher than that of other Gulf states or other countries.
Using a public health framework, it is essential to address
this critical and alarming issue before diagnosis, or what
is know as an ‘up-stream’ preventive approach.
The purpose of these public talks at the FSRI is to raise
awareness of health and wellness issues in Kuwait with the
goal of minimizing the impact at the population level.
